Hi everyone, Tomorrow will be the final day of this year, and of the first decade within the 21st century. From my research over the World Wide Net or WWN... this decade has several unofficial names including the Oh's, the two-thousands, and the noughties... o_O Anyway, this decade brought us many new intriguing technologies, including of course, the widely used In-ter-net, although I've never heard of such a crudely named mechanism. For me though, even though I spent only 6 years of my life in the years preceding the 'noughties', I believe the most important development within the world was that of video gaming XD. Even though people still enjoy classics such as Pac-man and Tetris, the creation of time-guzzling, high definition, seizure-inducing, graphically realistic 'games' such as the Call of Duty series, or the GTA series, allowed introverted sociopaths such as myself experience reality without leaving the comfort of the couch, and occasionally, even the bed :P. However, the 2000's razzle-dazzle technologies weren't enough to cover up many downfalls within the community. We saw the downfall of the superpower USA when somehow George Bush was elected as president over Al Gore. Natural disasters ravaged the land including 40 degree heat waves in Europe, earthquakes and tsunamis in the Asian-Pacific, hurricanes and tornadoes in the Americas, and of course, Swine flu, originating the Mexico and spreading throughout the world. (However, in my opinion, the danger of Swine-flu was greatly exaggerated by the WHO). War and terrorism was also evident throughout the world, including the war on terror provoked by the 9/11 attack, the Bali bombings, and the recent attacks in Mumbai. Recently, we also saw one of the largest gathering of political leaders in a convention in Copenhagen to find a plan to prevent further carbon emission and climate change. As expected, chucking a whole bunch of politicians together with no supervision, and they'll never reach an agreement. The economy ultimately came crashing down with the global financial crisis, which I believe to be God's punishment of the Americans for electing Mr Bush. This is further seen to be true since their economy has slowly risen again now that Mr Obama is in office. :) On a lighter note, this decade saw some of the highest grossing films in history, including the Lord of the Rings, the Dark Knight, and the Pirates of the Carribean all grossing over $1 billion. Ever single Harry Potter movie in the franchise also grossed over $750 million each. And unfortunately, the people collectively threw away over $650 million to sit through the torturous, New Moon... D: We also saw some major events in sport, including the 06 FIFA world cup, where Australia lost at the whim of a biased referee, and the 2008 olympics in BEIJING!!! Azn Pride ;D Books were also popular in the 21st century.. as always, and we saw many popular and controversial titles, including the Harry Potter series, Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, and *cough* Twilight. And so.. to this decade I say, so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good night, and to the decades to come, I look forward to flying cars, robot servants, and virtual virtual reality. As per usual, I shall leave you with a pic, quote and fact of the day, and especially, of the decade.. :P Of joys departed, not to return, how painful the remembrance. Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite.
